So the next version of Windows is Windows Vista formerly aka Longhorn.

Not sure what the ETA is (betas are out) probably early next year at this rate, but the promises for the end user experience are breath taking.

For example:
Windows Vista boots up in 2 to 3 seconds
(runs setup scripts in the background so you can work right away.) Wow its about time.
Performance will vary based on hardrive I'm sure.

Translucent windows (Glass and Animations) very MacOS X Aqua.

At first blush it looks like efficiency will take a dive on that one.
The icons and folders are gigantic.

You can see 6 at a time on a standard sized monitor.

Imagine if you have thousands of files and folders.
I'm sure the old view modes will be there too.

They really seem to be improving the user experience for the neophyte computer user.

They even improved ALT + Tab so that you can see an image of the window that you are selecting for faster identification.

Looks like a 3 Ghz processor computer will be de rigueur.

Its interesting that so much raw CPU power will be channeled to the visual presentation of the OS.

Still can't wait to get my hands on it.
